The psychology of color is a topic that is sometimes overlooked with startups when they are creating their logo or product, but such an important piece of the puzzle. Big companies spend a lot research finding the right colors to make sure they are conveying the right perception, and so should you! Color doesn’t cost anything to select but can cost your business everything.
First off, I absolutely LOVE psychology and knowing why people respond the way they do to certain items and how everything around us influences the way we think. Way back when, I got my degree in psychology and thought that because I didn’t do what I went to school to do, that I wasn’t using my degree. But I was wrong. Since I graduated, I have continued in my studies with behavior and coaching and today I see different items that are easily overlooked by startups.
Here’s what I noticed when working with a startup business. We talk about their product and they share ideas of a logo or website, but it’s based around items they like and what appeals to them. Now, don’t get me wrong…you want to love your marketing, but there’s more than just you that you need to appeal to. For example, you need to appeal to Ummm…..your customer?!?!

Who is your target market? Men? Women? Knowing the answer to this is also important in understanding which colors are best to use. If your target are men, then you may want to stay away from purple, however, if it’s women, then women will be just fine! BUT…it’s not always that easy because there are more things to consider, like your PRODUCT!
Do you want to convey a sense of trust, elegance, power, happiness, calmness? Do you want people to feel hungry or are you trying to suppress that appetite?
